The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Ever

The anticipation about The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
