The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
